Standard
General
Appearance: the impression of the Egyptian Mau should be one of an active, colourful cat of medium size with well-developed muscles.
Size: medium.
Head
Shape: slightly rounded wedge without flat planes, medium length. Profile shows a gentle contour with a slight rise from the bridge of the nose to the forehead.
Cheeks: no full cheeks.
Nose: entire length of nose evens in width when viewed from the front.
Muzzle: neither short nor pointed.
Ears
Shape: medium to large, broad at the base, alert and moderately pointed. Inner ear a delicate, almost transparent shell pink. The hair on the ears is short and close lying. Ears may be tufted.
Placement: upstanding with ample width between them, continuing the planes of the head.
Eyes
Shape: large, almond in shape, neither round nor oriental; with a slight slant towards the ears.
Expression: alert.
Colour: light green: "gooseberry green". Amber cast acceptable only in young adults up to 1 1/2 years of age.
Body
Structure: medium long, graceful, showing well developed muscular strength. Loose skin flap extends from the flank to the knee of the hind leg. General balance is more preferable than size alone.
Legs: in proportion to the body. Hind legs proportionately longer, giving the appearance of being on tiptoe when standing upright.
Paws: small and dainty, slightly oval, almost round in shape.
Tail: medium long, thick at the base with a slight taper.
Coat
Structure: short, but long enough to show 2-3 bands of ticking, with a lustrous sheen. In the smoke colour the hair is silky and fine in texture. In the silver and bronze colour varieties the hair is dense and resilient in texture.
Colour: in the silver and bronze colour varieties the hair accommodates two or more bands of ticking separated by lighter bands. For colour varieties refer to the following tables.
Condition: perfect physical condition with an alert appearance, well balanced physically and temperamentally.
Remarks: males tend to be larger than females.

General: general balance is more to be desired than size alone.
Eyes: amber cast in eye colour is acceptable only in young adults up to 1 1/2 years of age.
Coat: coat colour will be finished by 8 to 14 months of age.
